A production agency’s villa shortlist, built for photo shoots

Lovely Locations is a production-first location agency for Ibiza and the wider Balearics. We have walked each of these villas with a photographer’s eye — measuring which bedrooms work for wardrobe and hair, which terraces catch the west-coast sunset, whether the pool reads clean in a wide, and whether the owner is comfortable with a fourteen-person crew for two days straight.

Every villa here has hosted a real photo shoot — fashion editorial, swim and resort, beauty, bridal, lookbook and brand campaigns. None of it is tied to a single commission: we recommend whichever Blakstad-era design villa, traditional whitewashed finca or cliffside Es Cubells estate genuinely fits the brief, the mood board and the shoot date.

Why Ibiza villas

Six reasons Ibiza villas work for photo shoots

Multiple rooms for wardrobe, hair & make-up

Our Ibiza villas typically offer five to ten bedrooms — so hair, make-up, wardrobe, styling, client and talent each get a dedicated room rather than sharing a single living area. Fewer bottlenecks, faster turnarounds, cleaner frames in the background of any pull-back.

Pool-ready for swim & resort campaigns

Most villas here have a pool that reads clean on camera — rectangular lap pools for graphic swim, organic forms for resort editorial, infinity edges for horizon shots. Filtration schedules work around shoot days, and several owners let us drain-and-refill ahead of beauty work.

Whitewashed walls & architectural interiors

Traditional Ibicenco whites, polished concrete and warm-plaster interiors — clean canvases that photograph beautifully as they are, without a stylist repainting walls. Architectural stairwells, open-plan volumes and beamed ceilings for structured editorial frames.

Light that reads the terrace’s aspect

South and west-coast villas (Cala Jondal, Es Cubells, Cap Negret) catch warm afternoon and golden-hour light; north-coast cliffs (Na Xamena) hold soft morning side-light and violet Es Vedrá evenings. We tag every villa by terrace aspect so your DOP can plan the call sheet.

Owners who welcome productions

Every villa on this page is run by owners used to tripods indoors, wardrobe racks, client fittings and delivery vans. Shoot-friendly contracts we draft in advance, with crew numbers, timing and damage deposit agreed — not last-minute “we didn’t know” friction on the day.

One contact for the whole shoot

Villa scouting, owner agreements, Consell Insular permits where needed, local assistants, catering, hair and make-up, car rental, drone paperwork, coastal access. Same agency that shortlists the villa handles the production layer when the brief needs it.

Planning a villa photo shoot in Ibiza: the things worth knowing

Matching villa style to the mood board

The first decision is tonal. A whitewashed Ibicenco finca with weathered shutters, a stone clastra courtyard and an olive-grove terrace reads as the canonical Mediterranean-editorial look — warm, slow, textured, right for resort, bridal and artisanal lifestyle stories. A Blakstad-era design villa with polished concrete, open kitchen island and a minimal rectangular pool reads very differently on camera: flat, directional, almost studio-clean, the natural fit for swim, athleisure and fashion houses shooting clean-line garments. Cliffside Na Xamena, Es Cubells and Cala Jondal estates deliver horizon-to-horizon sea in every wide — and that pays off in swim, resort and aspirational-travel campaigns where the landscape itself is the product story. Walk all three styles before the DOP commits; the first shortlist often changes the brief.

Reading light by terrace aspect

Ibiza villa light is decided by which way the terrace faces. South and west-coast properties — Cala Jondal, Es Cubells, Cap Negret — catch the warm afternoon sun and the full amber-to-violet sunset arc, ideal for golden-hour swim and resort. East-facing villas above Talamanca and Santa Eulalia give you cooler morning light, cleaner for whites and e-commerce product. North-coast clifftops at Na Xamena turn deep blue late, with Es Vedrá silhouetted at dusk. We tag every villa by aspect at shortlist stage so the call sheet plans exposures around the room, not the clock. Summer blue hour runs roughly 21:15 in June, 20:30 in September, 19:00 in April and 18:15 in October.

Bedrooms, crew and production use of the house

For a fifteen to twenty-person editorial shoot we recommend at least five to six bedrooms — one for hair and make-up, one for wardrobe and styling, one for client changing, one for talent, plus a kit and producer room. Several of our villas run to nine or ten bedrooms, which solves both multi-talent fittings and dual-client shoots on the same day. Production use of the house is different from a standard villa stay: tripod marks on floors, rigs at windows, lighting flags in doorways, catering trucks on the drive. Only villas whose owners have operated through real shoot days end up on this list, and the owner agreement spells out which rooms are shoot-accessible, which are off-limits, and whether furniture can move.

Permits, coastal access and shoot paperwork

Private villa photo shoots on Ibiza generally do not need a municipal permit — the owner agreement is the document that matters, not a Consell Insular licence. Permits do kick in for drones, road closures, blocked access to public areas or protected natural zones (Ses Salines, parts of the north coast). Coastal filming — beaches, jetties, cliff-base rocks — is routed through the Demarcación de Costas with at least ten days’ notice, and the Ibiza Film Commission helps scope the paperwork when larger productions route through it. Villas with private sea access solve most of the coastal-permit question; villas with private coves are particularly valuable for swim and resort campaigns where public-beach permits add friction. We scope the permit layer alongside the location shortlist.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Do Ibiza villa photo shoots need a permit?

On private villa grounds, generally no — the owner agreement is the document that matters, not a municipal permit. Permits do apply for drones, blocked public roads, protected natural areas (Ses Salines, parts of the north coast) and commercial coastal filming, which routes through the Demarcación de Costas with at least ten days’ notice. The Ibiza Film Commission and Consell Insular handle larger public-land scopes. We scope the permit layer alongside the shortlist so nothing surprises you on the shoot day.

Which villa aspect gives the best golden-hour light?

South and west-coast villas — Cala Jondal, Es Cubells, Cap Negret, Cala Tarida — catch the full warm afternoon sun and the amber-to-violet sunset arc, which is the classic Ibiza golden hour for swim and resort campaigns. East-facing villas above Talamanca and Santa Eulalia hold cooler morning side-light that photographs cleaner for whites and product. North-coast clifftops at Na Xamena turn deep blue late with Es Vedrá silhouetted behind. We tag every villa by terrace aspect before shortlisting.

Can we use the villa’s pool for swim and editorial shoots?

Yes — pool access is standard on every villa here, and most owners are comfortable with swim and resort editorial. A few considerations: filtration schedules may need adjusting the day before a beauty-heavy shoot so the surface is glassy; several villas allow a drain-and-refill ahead of white-swimwear work; and infinity-edge pools on cliff villas read best at mid-afternoon when the horizon line sits cleanest. We flag pool size, shape, filtration and infinity edge at shortlist.

Will the villa owner be present during the shoot?

It varies by villa. Some owners live off-site and hand over the keys for the shoot days; others stay in a guest house or caretaker’s wing on the estate; a small number prefer to remain in the main house. We flag the owner’s expected presence for every villa at shortlist stage, which matters for privacy-sensitive fittings, client VIPs, nude or intimate editorial work, and the general vibe of the day. Full owner-absent, whole-villa takeovers are available where the brief needs it.

Do the villas allow swimwear, nude or intimate editorial work?

Swimwear and lingerie editorial is standard on virtually every villa on this list — many were originally scouted for exactly that work. Nude and implied-nude work is handled case by case: we filter to villas where the owner has approved it in writing, and we only show you those options if the brief calls for it. Sharing the reference imagery or shot list early helps us shortlist honestly; there is no point putting forward a villa the owner would decline once the brief lands.

How many bedrooms do I need for wardrobe, hair and make-up?

For a fifteen to twenty-person editorial shoot we typically recommend at least five to six bedrooms: one for hair and make-up, one for wardrobe and styling, one for client changing, one for talent, plus a kit and producer room. Several Ibiza villas on this page run to nine or ten bedrooms, which solves both multi-talent fittings and dual-client shoots in the same production day. Smaller content crews (four to six people) fit comfortably into a three or four-bedroom villa.

How do I request a shortlist?
