A production-led location agency for film in Ibiza

Lovely Locations is a production-first agency working across Ibiza and Formentera. We have walked every location on this page, measured power on each site, noted where a camera truck can turn, and checked how the island’s Mediterranean light falls across cliffs, fincas and whitewashed interiors through the day.

Every location has hosted a real film production — commercials, music videos, brand films, narrative and editorial moving image. We coordinate alongside the Ibiza Film Commission and the five municipal councils (Consell Insular d’Eivissa, Sant Josep, Santa Eulària, Sant Antoni, Sant Joan) and the Demarcación de Costas for beach and coastal work, so the permit timeline lines up with your shoot dates.

Why Ibiza for film

Six reasons Ibiza works for film production

30% Spanish audiovisual tax rebate

Spain’s Article 36.2 LIS offers a 30% rebate on the first €1M of qualifying Spanish spend, 25% on spend above, capped at €20M per feature. Foreign productions claim through a Spain-registered ICAA executive producer. The Balearic Islands fall under this national incentive.

Municipal permits, 7–10 working days

Ibiza Vila requires a minimum seven working days’ lead. Sant Josep, Sant Antoni and Sant Joan work to ten. Santa Eulària has its own sliding day-rate fees. We submit and track the paperwork so the permit window lines up with your shoot dates.

Coastal & beach permits via Demarcación de Costas

All shoreline and beach filming sits with the Office of the Coastal Demarcation of Ibiza — minimum ten days’ lead. Ses Salines Natural Park needs an additional Resolution from the Balearic environmental ministry (CAIB), with fees scaling by model involvement.

Drone flights: Ibiza airspace is controlled

All of Ibiza’s airspace is controlled by the airport — recreational drone flight is prohibited. Commercial aerial requests require twenty working days’ lead and must be coordinated with the AENA safety officer. We route aerial work through AESA-certified operators.

Five terrain archetypes, short drives

Pine-covered hills, reddish-rock beaches, whitewashed salt flats, Dalt Vila cobblestones and brutalist architecture. The island is 570 km² — most locations are inside forty minutes of Ibiza airport, which makes a multi-location call sheet genuinely feasible.

Two flight hours from most European capitals

Ibiza airport connects direct to London, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, Madrid and Barcelona in roughly two hours. The airport itself is filmable with two-hour minimum via AENA commercial. Shoulder season (May, June, September, October) delivers working light and below-peak rates.

Planning a film production in Ibiza: the practical detail

Permits: which council, how long, what’s needed

Ibiza handles film and photo permits at municipal level across five councils: Eivissa (Vila), Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Santa Eulària des Riu, Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Joan de Labritja. Ibiza Vila requires a minimum seven working days’ lead. Sant Josep and Sant Antoni work on ten. Santa Eulària publishes a day-rate scale that varies by exclusivity level. Sant Joan accepts downloadable forms by email. Private locations — fincas, villas, the distinctive interiors — typically don’t require a municipal permit: you work from the owner’s rental agreement. For Dalt Vila’s UNESCO-listed streets, we route through Vila council.

Coastline, protected areas and Ses Salines

Shoreline and beach filming in Ibiza sits under the Office of the Coastal Demarcation of Ibiza (Demarcación de Costas), with a ten-day minimum application lead and separate day-rate fees for film versus photo. Protected natural areas — most notably the Ses Salines Natural Park with its salt pans, dunes and marine extension — additionally require a Resolution from the Balearic environmental ministry (CAIB). Fees scale with model involvement and rise sharply for night shoots inside the park.

Drones, aerial and the airport

All of Ibiza’s airspace is classified as controlled and recreational drone flight is prohibited island-wide. Commercial aerial work is possible but requires twenty working days’ notice coordinated with AENA’s airport safety officer, plus the usual AESA operator certification and flight plan. The airport itself is filmable through AENA commercial, with a two-hour minimum and separate tariffs for film and photo. For routine aerial establisher shots we often recommend a helicopter or a fixed-wing solution routed through a Spain-based aerial unit, rather than drones.

Working with an Ibiza location agency versus booking direct

Booking a single villa direct is simple for a one-day unit. A location agency earns its seat on productions that need (a) a curated shortlist across formats — finca, villa, cliff, Dalt Vila, distinctive interior — before the client can choose, (b) a multi-location call sheet across two or more days, or (c) a production layer: permit applications to each council, camera-truck transport, classic-car vehicle rental, stay-over accommodation for crew at finca locations, catering, on-set support. We do not mark up location rates; coordination is quoted separately so the economics stay readable.

Common questions · film production

Frequently asked

How long does a film permit take in Ibiza?

It depends on the municipality. Ibiza Vila requires a minimum of seven working days between the application reaching the council register and the first shoot day. Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Joan de Labritja all work to ten working days. Santa Eulària processes on a similar rolling window. Beach, shoreline and coastal filming runs through the Office of the Coastal Demarcation of Ibiza (Demarcación de Costas) with a ten-day minimum. We file and track each application so the permit issue date matches your call sheet, not the other way around.

Can a foreign production claim the 30% Spanish tax rebate from an Ibiza shoot?

Yes. Under Spain’s Article 36.2 LIS incentive, foreign audiovisual productions can claim a 30% rebate on the first €1,000,000 of qualifying Spanish spend and 25% on spend above that, capped at €20 million per feature film and €10 million per episode for series. The claim is made through a Spanish executive production company registered with ICAA, with a minimum €1M Spanish spend (€200,000 for animation). The Balearic Islands, including Ibiza, fall under this national framework. We can introduce you to ICAA-registered executive producers; we do not claim the rebate ourselves.

What crew day-rates and crew size does Ibiza support?

Most productions on our roster run small to mid-size: a five- to fifteen-person editorial unit through to twenty- to forty-person commercial crews with talent, HMU, stylists and agency. Local Ibiza and Formentera crew is solid for DoP, camera operator, sound, gaffer, grip, AC, production assistants and drivers. Specialist heads of department (SFX, stunts, large-rig lighting) are usually flown in from Barcelona or Madrid. Published Spain day-rates and union minimums apply; we share current local quotes when we shortlist locations rather than guessing in advance.

What insurance does a production need to shoot in Ibiza?

At minimum, productions need civil liability (third-party) cover and equipment cover sufficient for the kit on set — councils routinely ask to see a valid policy certificate as part of the permit file. Coastal and protected-area permits often require named-insured entries for the issuing authority. For productions involving the public (vehicles, stunts, aerial), additional cover and risk assessments are needed. We share the exact insurance wording each council expects on shortlist so your producer can line it up once, not per location.

Are drones allowed for aerial filming in Ibiza?

Recreational drone flight is prohibited across Ibiza — the island’s airspace is controlled and overseen by Ibiza Airport. Commercial aerial work is possible but requires twenty working days’ notice coordinated with the AENA airport safety officer, plus standard AESA operator certification, insurance and a filed flight plan. For reliable aerial establisher work we often recommend a helicopter or fixed-wing unit flown in from the Spanish mainland. We route aerial scoping through AESA-certified operators who are used to the Ibiza airspace rules.

Can I shoot in Dalt Vila, Ses Salines or on public beaches?

Yes, with permits. Dalt Vila — the UNESCO-listed old-town fortifications — goes through Eivissa Vila council on the seven-working-day timeline. Public beaches and the coastline run through the Office of the Coastal Demarcation of Ibiza on a ten-day minimum. Ses Salines Natural Park additionally requires a Resolution from the Balearic environmental ministry (CAIB), with fees scaling by model count and a 50% surcharge for night work. We handle the paperwork route across all three authorities.

What production services can you coordinate alongside the locations?

Location scouting, permit applications across the five municipal councils plus Costas and CAIB, camera-truck and talent transport, crew accommodation including multi-day stay-over at finca locations, classic-car and vehicle rental, catering, on-set production support and aerial coordination through AESA-certified operators. We partner with established Ibiza production companies for full line-producing scope on bigger commercial jobs; for smaller shoots we often handle it end-to-end. What we don’t do is invent services we can’t deliver — we will recommend a local specialist if that’s the honest answer.
